Beginner_A1: 5th Session_A Little Trouble in Berlin by Richard Macandrew

Dear members of the Reading Club,

It's time to post your comments about what you have read during this week.

So, please, choose a question to answer from the following ones:

a) Why were Andy and Mary taken to the river?

b) Why did sergeant Tom Brady say, "There are a lot of O'Briens in Dublin"?

c) How does Mr. Green Shirt know Miss O'Brien?'.

d) Did you expect that ending of the story?

e) Do you think that teachers are often involved in crimes?

Then, choose a partner to interact with and reply to his/her post.

Best,

Jimena Rivadeneira, MA. TEFL.

  1. a) I think Andy and Mary were taken to the river because Mr. Green Shirt and Mr. Blue Shirt wanted to kill them. Also, they planned to dissappear their bodies in the river. In this way, nobody could tell the police about their crime with forged notes.

    1. It is a very scary thought to think that, but unfortunately that is what Mr. and Mrs. Blue Shirt wanted to do. If that had happened I hope justice would have been done.

  2. b) Because in these places the name O'Briens is very typical in Dublin.

    1. b) Yes, I understand that he was referring to the fact that there are many people named after him, which was a very common name in that area.

  3. e) I think that there are teachers who commit crimes because they abuse the students not only physically but also psychologically with offenses, insults, blows or affect their grades and their mental health. In my country both abuses and harassment are penalized.

    1. Well, what you state is true. Not all the professionals working in the education area are sensitive in the way they treat students, and it must change! On the other hand, I consider that any person who commits a crime has a motivation, and maybe it's about money.
